Uk Government Delays Agency Workers Directive
In a concession to business groups, Prime Minister Gordon Brown's government said Thursday that it will delay for two years implementing a European Union directive giving temporary agency-hired workers equal rights to formal employees. In a consultation document promising to save billions of pounds for businesses by deferring planned new regulation, the Department of Business said "after careful consideration," it has decided to implement the E.U.'s Agency Workers Directive in October 2011. That is shortly before the December 2011 deadline.

New Miniumum Wage Rates from 1st October 2009

New Minimum Wage Rates
An increase in the national minimum wage from £5.52 to £5.73 an hour for adult workers has come into force. The statutory hourly rate for 18 to 22-year-olds has also risen from £4.60 to £4.77, and for 16 and 17-year-olds has lifted from £3.40 to £3.53. Source: BBC News Website
